Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer-to-Disc Ratio Distinguishing Glaucoma from Nonarteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy

چکیده

Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic value of retinal nerve fiber layer-to-disc ratio (RDR) compared to established parameters including layer thickness (RNFLT), Bruch membrane opening-minimum rim width (BMO-MRW), and area (BMO-MRA) for differentiating between open angle glaucoma (OAG) nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION).Methods: This retrospective study included 23 disc size-matched normal control eyes OAG NAION matched according global RNFLT. The RDR, RNFLT, BMO-MRW, BMO-MRA were analyzed; capabilities these using under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC).Results: BMO-MRW total lower in group than other two groups (all <i>p</i> < 0.001). RDR was greatest group, followed by healthy (<i>p</i> Between groups, AUCs temporal inferior BMO-MRA, 0.987, 0.996, 1.000, respectively; greater RNFLT (0.811; = 0.005, 0.006, respectively). Conclusions: could be one useful differential diagnosis NAION.

Long-term retinal nerve fiber layer changes following nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy

BACKGROUND In cases of nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness changes have been described during the first 12 months following the acute event. The purpose of this study was to report on the long-term RNFL changes in these eyes beyond the first year following onset of NAION. METHODS Fourteen eyes of 13 patients with NAION were analy...

Peripapillary Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Swelling Predicts Peripapillary Atrophy in a Primate Model of Nonarteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy

PURPOSE To determine the relationship between peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (PRNFL) swelling and eventual PRNFL atrophy, and between PRNFL swelling/atrophy and neural function, in a nonhuman primate model of nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (pNAION). METHODS pNAION was induced in five normal, adult male rhesus monkeys by laser activation of intravenously injected rose...

Nonarteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy Induced Retinal Folds and Deformations

Purpose We hypothesized that the edema/swelling in the retina due to acute nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) can induce retinal folds (RF). We determined the pattern and frequency of folds in NAION at presentation and in follow-up, and the relationship between folds and a number of functional and structural parameters over time. Methods We prospectively studied eyes with...

Surgery for nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy.

BACKGROUND Nonarteritic ischemic optic neuropathy is characterized by sudden and painless loss of vision in one eye, accompanied by pallid swelling of the optic disc. Although various medical interventions, such as corticosteroids and phenytoin sodium, have been used to treat nonarteritic ischemic optic neuropathy, no therapy has been proven effective. OBJECTIVES The objective of this review ...

Incipient nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy.

OBJECTIVE To describe the clinical entity of incipient nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). DESIGN Cohort study. PARTICIPANTS Fifty-four patients (60 eyes) seen in our clinic from 1973 through 2000. METHODS At their first visit to our clinic, all patients gave a detailed ophthalmic and medical history and underwent a comprehensive ophthalmic evaluation, color fundus ph...
